THE CHALLENGE

Meeting the talent acquisition needs of a newly acquired business with an embedded resource

Global Head of Talent Acquisition Ryan Buck has been leading the talent team at SymphonyAI since August 2022. His team is responsible for attracting high performers across five separate businesses within the company. The Sensa-NetReveal acquisition was already underway when Ryan joined the business; he inherited a team that was working at full capacity in a rapidly evolving environment: “The acquisition took us into unchartered territory as a talent acquisition team, and this project represented incremental work for us,” says Ryan. “We suddenly had to operate in a host of new geographies simultaneously, some of which, like Malaysia, Singapore, and Poland, we had never supported in the past. On top of that, it was a new technology proposition area for the team to get their heads around. NetReveal operates in a niche space, with most roles requiring deep specific subject matter expertise. The various geographies we were targeting added a layer of complexity to the search. Naturally, the more you hone in on niche skill sets in specific locations, the more limited your talent pool becomes.”

“We brought over around 700 people through the acquisition, and they initially had about 15 priority roles open. That quickly became 25, and as we chipped away to fill them, even more opened up,” Ryan continues. A large number of the employees that transferred through the acquisition were in product-focused roles. As a result, Ryan and his team needed to build a range of departments around that existing capability: “Our initial priority was to build the business functions. The roles varied from very senior and niche searches to more entry-level and high-volume ones. It was a cross-functional resourcing project; we had roles in business systems, sales and marketing, technical and product, legal and compliance, and IT and procurement roles. The task in front of us was critical.”

“The acquisition brought about rapid change in a very short period of time, and simultaneously, we had around 250 open roles at SymphonyAI across 30 different countries that my team were already in the process of supporting. Considering the criticality of the roles in new markets and in a niche industry, it would have been a heavy lift for us to take on the NetReveal demand in real-time. We needed a talent partner that could understand and deal with this level of complexity. A proven track record of success in our key markets would also be infinitely invaluable to us.”

“Stott and May had a proven track record of success and strong relationships already in place with the business. They also had extensive expertise in the markets we were focused on, particularly in Europe and APAC.”

THE ONBOARDING

Multiple efficiency savings through one truly aligned partner

After a thorough selection process, SymphonyAI selected Stott and May to lead the Sensa-NetReval project in September 2022. From the start of the relationship, trust and transparency between the teams paved the way for an efficient onboarding experience: “The process was incredibly easy and natural. Stott and May operate very much like we do. It was a collaboration of like-minded people focused on what was important to the business - filling the roles with great people as fast as possible. Right from the project kick-off, we started to get great profiles into the mix that aligned with what we were looking for. That gave us the confidence to accelerate straight into the interview process.”

“We made substantial time savings and efficiencies based on a collective understanding of the brief. That allowed us to really expedite the process from candidate screening all the way through to offer and getting the right people in seats. We had recurring cadence calls with a single point of contact at Stott and May to discuss progress, ensure everything was aligned, highlight active search statuses, and address potential issues. The communication was very transparent, and I was confident in their ability to efficiently manage the onboarding process and act as a trusted strategic partner with our hiring managers.”

“I consider Stott and May a trusted strategic partner that can augment our team's ability to deliver talent in new and developing markets across the world on a moment's notice.”

THE SOLUTION

Identifying a collaborative talent partner based on track record

Given the intricacies of the acquisition and the niche talent communities they needed to address, it was important for Sensa-NetReveal to find a highly collaborative partner. As a global company with multiple verticals, SymphonyAI initiated their partner selection process by evaluating the performances of various recruitment agencies they had previously worked with. “One of the first things the business did was to highlight all the people we had hired via recruitment agencies over the past 12 months. Looking at which firms they came from and the geographies they had coverage in. We could then evaluate the talent partners we had seen the most success with historically,” notes Ryan.

“Having worked with several recruitment partners, this is where Stott and May stood out. They had a proven track record of success and strong relationships already in place with the business. They also had extensive expertise in the markets we were focused on, particularly in Europe and APAC. This aspect was important to us because we needed someone who could facilitate and support an end-to-end recruitment process. Not just fill requisitions. In my experience, some recruiters just go about things the wrong way - there’s a lack of transparency which makes it difficult to trust and work with them effectively. From the beginning, it couldn’t have been more different with Stott and May, and it made the decision very straightforward. It was easy to trust a seasoned veteran who understood the business and the context of our challenge.”

THE RESULTS

Scaling up talent acquisition on demand with no compromises

The project has culminated in excess of 31 key hires on a contract and permanent basis across the US, Canada, Dublin, Poland, Malaysia, and the UK. Ryan has built a comprehensive team at Sensa-NetReveal that continues to scale with the help of Stott and May. When asked about what really impressed him about the engagement, Ryan reflects on the benefits of being able to access an extension of his own talent team that has a genuine global reach. “I consider Stott and May a trusted strategic partner that can augment our team's ability to deliver talent in new and developing markets across the world on a moment's notice.”

Based on the positive experience of the Sensa-NetReveal project, Ryan has continuously returned to Stott and May for support across broader requirements at SymphonyAI. “When it comes to a recruitment partner, I want to leverage a long-term relationship. That’s been the case with Stott and May; I’ve frequently returned to them. There have been projects within the Industrial business unit, which is a completely different vertical to NetReveal, but I knew I could lean on Stott and May to help us with those searches. More recently, I’ve asked for their support in the Retail sector in Japan, for example. Effectively, multiple times we’ve tasked them to recruit for a completely different business in different geographies. But the result has been the same every time. Whatever the vertical or location, Stott and May have continued to deliver. At the end of the project, they even filled two recruiter positions for us to eliminate our broader dependency on agencies in these newly acquired territories.

“I firmly believe the success of our partnership comes down to trust; it’s the first thing that comes to mind when I think of Stott and May. Communication and alignment have also been vital. Stott and May have delivered value by filling roles with great people in specific locations and verticals we hadn’t worked in before. I’ve never had to worry about anything; they augment our team with end-to-end ownership of the process and accountability for the desired results. Hiring high-quality talent on time while delivering a great experience to our candidates and hiring managers is my top priority, and Stott and May understood that. They would be one of the first recruitment agencies I recommend because I've had such a good experience with them.”
